Honduras is located in the widest part of the Central American isthmus. It borders with the Atlantic to the North, and with this same sea and the Republic of Nicaragua to the East; Nicaragua, the Gulf of Fonseca and the republic of El Salvador to the South; and Guatemala to the West. The surface of Honduras, including all its islands, is estimated to be 112.492 km². It has 400 miles of coastline on the Atlantic, and 60 on the Pacific Ocean, between the mouths of the Negro and Goascoran rivers.
